If you don't immediately use your doors and traps, you will get more powerful doors and traps the next time the Workshop manufactures something. But I find that it is very useful to IMMEDIATELY put the first wooden door on the entrance to the workshop.

Why you ask? Because a door counts as a fortified wall. And room tiles which are COMPLETELY surrounded by fortified walls will achieve a 100% efficiency rating.
