A good way to get you creatures levels up quickly is to capture a creature that is weak at fighting but can take a lot of damage (low level barbarians work well) and heal them to full health. then drop them into the training room, where they will be knocked out and carried back to prison.

Meanwhile your creatures just gained experience for the battle. once the enemy is back in prison, repeat. this is good for training reapers, as it cost no gold if you use chickens to heal the prisoner, and as most of us know reapers suck up gold when training. Make sure there arent any bile demons or spiders around, poioson gas will kill the prisoner, and if they are frozen they can be shattered easily. Just try slapping a frozen prisoner and see...
