Most people figure this out but don't waste time torturing your own creatures. In a multiplayer game I played a man who figured out that if you beat your creatures in the torture chamber they sometimes work harder for less pay (I don't know for sure that's true but he said so), well, he killed so many of his creatures that when I breached his walls, that was that. If you must torture some of you creatures, and if they sometimes will work harder for less pay that could be good, don't get carried away though. Leave most of your minions untouched. Build a prison, capture the enemy monsters, torcher them.
Way more fun.
